What Is an Externship?

Externships typically take place during winter break. Students can register for an externship and review the available sites in the fall semester.

Purpose of the Career Connections Externship Program

The Career Connections Externship Program exists to provide 色戒直播 students the opportunity to connect with a professional in their area of interest. This program is designed to help students make educated career decisions relating to majors, job functions, and industries. The Career Connections Externship Program also gives students the opportunity to experience an organization firsthand, allowing them to make educated decisions when later selecting an industry for future employment.

What Is an Internship?

  • An internship is a carefully monitored work experience in which an individual has intentional learning goals and reflects actively on what they鈥檙e learning throughout the experience.
  • It鈥檚 temporary work that provides on-the-job training and practical experience.
  • Internships usually last one semester but can be longer or shorter. Some are paid positions, and others can earn academic credit.

Students can intern in almost any area of study in any part of the country or abroad. Internships often help students get their foot in the door for their first full-time permanent position. Employers use internships as a way to gain a first look at prospective employees.

How to Complete an Internship for Credit

At 色戒直播, academic credit can be granted for an internship for sophomore, junior, or senior students with a GPA of at least 2.5. (Transfer students must have also completed a full fall or spring term of study at 色戒直播.) Exceptions are allowed with approval. Please work with your academic advisor if you do not meet the above requirements.

Internships for credit must be completed under the supervision of a faculty supervisor and an on-site supervisor at the sponsoring organization. They may be taken during any term, including summer, on a full-time or part-time basis, and may assume the form of volunteer work or internships in public or private agencies, institutes, or businesses. After finding faculty and on-site supervisors, students will fill out the application form and agreement to partake in the internship for credit.

Students must complete a minimum of 140 hours in order to earn one course unit and a minimum of 280 hours to earn two course units during the fall or spring semesters. If completing an experience for credit over the summer, the same number of hours must be completed but in a shorter period of time.

Internship Stipends

Internships often come with real-world hours, but not real-world compensation. Stipends can help with that. Sponsored by local corporate partners or 色戒直播 alumni, internship stipends provide compensation to selected students who are completing an internship during their time at Moravian. These $2,500 (pretax) stipends are intended to engage students in the community by completing an internship in their desired field. Internship stipend funding is limited, and the number of stipends awarded depends on the donations we receive. Typically we award 2-3 stipends per semester. Applications are reviewed by a committee, and stipends are awarded based on the strength of the application materials submitted. Funding is not guaranteed for all applicants.
